noynoy Aquino the newest Pilipino Presedent

MANILA, Philippines - President-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III said on Tuesday that he will create a "truth commission" in response to alleged "transgressions" committed by the Arroyo administration.

The body, which will be headed by former Chief Justice Hilario Davide, Jr., will prosecute “any and all issues” that have stalled the Filipino people's access to justice.

During the announcement of the composition of his Cabinet, Aquino said “this [truth commission] is the body that I promised the people I will set-up to put closure on so many issues. Primarily, they will be collators of data, evidence and proof as to who committed what, and what transgressions of laws were committed.”

This is similar to the mandate he has given incoming Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, who will be working alongside Davide in the "truth commission."

“They will, as necessary, prepare and prosecute cases to make sure those who committed crimes against the people will be made to pay,” Aquino said.

“Yung sa 'Hello, Garci' ba may nangyari ba? Yung sa fertilizer scam? Any and all issues, including extra-judicial killings,” Aquino said, when asked what the commission will cover.

He did not give the commission any deadlines, but said “let’s not wait for the completion, formulation or conclusions of all issues."

"Every time an issue has gotten to a stage that we’re ready to file the charges, then that should be filed,” Aquino said.

He expects the commission will be ready with its mechanisms or organizational rules in a month’s time.

A Lebanese immigrant has become the first Arab woman to be crowned Miss USA.

Rima Fakih, who moved to the United States as a baby, beat contestants from every American state to win the 58-year-old beauty pageant.

Delighted members of the Arab-American community gathered near Miss Fakih’s home in Michigan to celebrate victory by dancing and singing late into Sunday night. World's biggest beaver dam discovered in northern Canada

Mike Keizer, spokesman for the park, said rangers flew over the heavily forested marshlands last year to try to "have a look." They found significant vegetation growing on the dam itself, suggesting it's very old, he said.



"A new dam would have a lot of fresh sticks," Keizer explained. "This one has grasses growing on it and it's very green."



Part of the dam may have been created by naturally felled trees, and the beavers "opportunistically filled in the gaps."



Thie said he recently identified two smaller dams sprouting at either side of the main dam. In 10 years, all three structures could merge into a mega-dam measuring just short of a kilometer in length, he said.

The region is flat, so the beavers would have had to build a massive structure to stem wetland water flows, Thie said, noting that the dam was visible in NASA satellite imagery from the 1990s.



"It's a unique phenomenon," he said. "Beaver dams are among the few animal-made structures visible from space."



North American beavers build dams to create deep, still pools of water to protect against predators, and to float food and building materials.



A 652-meter structure in Three Forks in the US state of Montana previously held the record for world's largest beaver dam.



Thie said he also found evidence that beavers were repopulating old habitats after being hunted extensively for pelts in past centuries.

"They're invading their old territories in a remarkable way in Canada," he said. "I found huge dams throughout Canada, and beaver colonies with up to 100 of them in a square kilometer."



"They're re-engineering the landscape," he said.

Scott Sicko will take his ball and go home

From Night Train Lane to Kurt Warner(notes), the NFL has been graced with the talents of many undrafted players who went on to Hall of Fame careers. Often, the snubs are used by the players to drive them to greatness, and the resulting successes are often used as inspirational "anything can happen if you work hard enough" fodder for people in every walk of life. Odds are that of the 2010 undrafted class, a handful of players will go on to make significant differences for their teams and for the league.
Here's one thing we know: Scott Sicko will not be one of them. Sicko, a former New Hampshire tight end, made his position clear -- if he was not drafted, he would not play professional football. This despite definite interest from several teams, including the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Dallas Cowboys, after the draft ended.

"Some people will think I'm absolutely out of my mind, and I understand it," Sicko told Mark McGuire of the Albany Times Union on Saturday night. "I completely see where they're coming from. ... If I were to be drafted I would have had more confidence of a much longer career in the NFL. I have to look at my life and decide what will make me the happiest. And the thing that will make me the happiest now and in the long run is to pursue my education."
The decision to pursue one's education in place of a pro football career is an understandable (and commendable) one. But that doesn't seem to be at the heart of Sicko's decision -- it appears to be more about the prestige of having a draft pick attached to one's name. And that's where the decision seems odd. If Sicko had legitimate NFL potential -- and judging from the way the Cowboys were pursuing him (basically telling him that he'd likely have a roster spot), it seems he did - why should it matter? Do we really think that the guys drafted in the last 10 spots of the seventh round are feeling that much better than the players who were signed as undrafted free agents soon after? Is Sicko upset because he won't get a big to-do like Tim Toone, the 2010 Mr. Irrelevant, will?
There are advantages to the UDFA process -- some players actually prefer to go undrafted if they're not picked up by, say, the late sixth round because they have more choices. If Sicko had been drafted by a team very deep at his position, he may never have received a chance. This way, he could pick and choose the best situation for himself. But now, that will never happen.
Sicko intends to go after a post-graduate degree in history, but one history lesson might do him some good before he closes the book on a potential NFL future. There's a long list of people who have transcended the status he feels he's above, and that's worth considering. He is a big (6-4, 251 pounds) tight end with good speed and productivity at the Colonial Athletic Association level. Why not give the NFL a try, even if it isn't on his terms?

Mignano said tests are being conducted and that no further information was available.
The 47-year-old reality TV star had an emergency appendectomy last week after complaining of stomach pains. He said on his website that though the surgery "has taken its toll," doctors expected him to make a full recovery.
